Preship review
We had a great turn out this year for our annual pre-ship event. The bleachers were filled by the time we started with fans that stated they were very anxious and excited to see how the new game was played. Due to a couple minor mechanical difficulties our robot was unable to participate for the entire time, but luckily we had 3 other teams from near by high schools, including Champion high school (team 2010), Orange high school (team 1787), and Brush high school (team 1001). These teams had a great time trying out their robots against others and on a full size playing field. The event was definitely a great opportunity to find the strengths and weaknesses that our machines have.

FIRST Kicks it into "Overdrive"
Every year in January, FIRST robotics team around the world gather to see the new competition for the year, and every year team 48 DELPHI E.L.I.T.E. comes together to watch the kick-off event.

This year's game is called FIRST Overdrive. The basic premise of the game is that robots will race around the field while attempting to score Trackballs by pushing them under or over an overpass. Each three team alliance gets two trackballs to manipulate during the match. At the end of the 2 minute and 15 second match, if the teams we're able to place the trackballs back on the overpass, they will receive additional points. Teams receive 8 points per trackball that is pushed off the overpass during hybrid mode, 4 points for each lap, 8 points each time the trackball is passed over the overpass, 2 points every time the trackball is passed under the overpass, and 12 points if the trackball is placed on the overpass at the end of the game.

After seeing the new game, the team breaks into small groups with an adult mentor to come up with ideas on the robot design and our strategy for this year's game. The small groups write down all of the possible ideas and then present their idea to the full team. This marks the official start of our build season. Six weeks of designing, building, and programming a robot. Everyone on our team has tremendous value. We all put a lot of effort and pride into what we do. Robotics is a great experience and we encourage anyone that wants to be involved to join us.

CiCis Fundraiser Review
A very, very important thank you needs to go out to all those who participated in the CiCi’s Pizza fundraiser. We received a great deal of help to make this possible. We had Mr. Whitacre, the Warren G. Harding Communication teacher, working busily to help with advertising the event, some very dedicated Team 48 members spending their entire Thursday evening at CiCi’s, and many greatly appreciated and hungry customers. Thank you also to CiCi’s for allowing us to have the event and for their donation.
Although we cannot give you the exact amount of money because we have yet to receive the check from CiCi’s, last year we made about $160 so we are expecting about the same this year. Considering that it did not cost the team anything, it was quite beneficial. Every bit helps!
Thank you all so much and we will continue in making you and Warren G Harding proud!
